My name is Ashique Habib, and I am a PhD Candidate in Economics at the University of Toronto. My research interests focus on macroeconomics, financial economics, and development. I will be joining the International Monetary Fund in the Fall of 2017.
My research seeks to understand how financial institutions help or hinder the discovery of information, and the implications for the macroeconomy. In my job market paper, I investigate how financial underdevelopment can explain cross-country productivity differences by impeding the discovery of entrepreneurial talent. In my other work, I show how rating agencies can support market liquidity and help over-the-counter markets overcome adverse selection.
